| Named for its original owner, the Zachariah Eddy House abounds in history. Son of one of Middleborough's founding fathers and descended from Pilgrim ancestry, Zachariah was himself one of the town's most prominent attorneys. His father, Joshua Eddy was a Revolutionary War Captain. And counted among his friends and colleagues were Daniel Webster and John Quincy Adams. |
| This large Greek revival house was built on granite block in 1831 and renovated with Colonial revival detail in the late 1800's. It is highlighted by many interesting and unusual architectural details which still retain their original beauty and charm. You will find it filled with special treasures of days gone by; double parlors, parquet floors, built in china closets and stained glass windows. Of special significance is the "Chapel Bath" with a story to tell all its own. | Click Photo to enlarge

| | | The desirable downtown location affords easy accessibility to a variety of points of interest. You have only to cross the street to step back in time. Milady's Mercantile, featured in Victoria Magazine, offers vintage antique linens and lace. While her neighbor, Christina's Antiques, offers an extensive collection of ladies antique jewelry and collectibles. Whether you browse or buy, it is a pleasant interlude. If you have a passion for antiques, there are also several more antique shops within walking distance. |
| | | Explore a little further and find yourself enchanted by the Tom Thumb exhibit at the Middleborough Historical Museum. The museum houses the world's largest collection of Tom Thumb memorabilia. As an interesting side note; part of that collection once resided at the Zachariah Eddy House before being donated to the museum. Performers for P.T. Barnum's circus, General Tom Thumb and his diminutive wife Lavinia made their home in Middleborough. Some older residents recall the "little couple" tossing pennies to the children in the streets whenever they would return home from the circus. |
| | | Zachariah Eddy House offers the ideal location for all your touring needs. Centrally located, as the name implies, Middleborough is perfectly situated for your southern New England vacation. Imagine enjoying a comfortable home base without having to pack up every night or worry about check-in and check-out times. | | | Your hosts believe that breakfast should be one of the best reasons for choosing a bed & breakfast. At the Zachariah Eddy House you will find the breakfast menus creative and hearty. Your hosts take pride in featuring local products in season, produce from their own gardens and all home baked breads and muffins. Some house favorites include bread pudding with amaretto sauce, baked apple pancakes, Yankee scramble and breakfast pizza. Treat yourself to one of the special pleasures of Cape Cod in season, the House Special Lobster Omelet. |
| | | Summer on Cape Cod offers not only sun and surf, but also fabulous fresh seafood. Weather and tide permitting, you may enjoy joining the innkeepers boating in nearby Cape Cod waters as they fish, dig clams, quahog or pull up lobster pots from the ocean floor. And, if that seems like more work than play, you need only ask about the daily lobster specials to enjoy the catch of the day. When you find yourself daydreaming of freshly caught lobsters and clams simmering in a pot , a peek into the kitchen may show it's not a daydream ! Another special treat is the signature house dish, New England Clam Chowder (actually it's quahog to the locals). Summer at the Zachariah Eddy House is truly a native experience. |
| | | Autumn in New England is beauty beyond compare, and the crowning glory is the cranberry harvest. As you drive through the countryside and unexpectedly come across a cranberry bog being readied for harvest, you'll marvel at its breathtaking beauty. It is no wonder that the Cranberry Harvest Festival in October draws thousands of visitors from around the world. Middleborough is in the heart of Cranberry country and also the home of Ocean Spray Cranberries. |

About the Baths...The Zachariah Eddy House was built in 1831 as a Greek revival home and renovated in the late 1800's with Colonial revival detail. It still retains most of its original beauty and charm. In an effort to preserve the integrity of its unique architectural style, we have made the decision not to alter the character of these bedrooms in order to add individual baths. Although this does present some minimal inconvenience, and is not pleasing to all, we believe that it is important to protect its character in this way. Therefore, bathrooms are located just a few steps away from each bedroom at either end of a common hallway. There are two baths and three guest rooms. At full occupancy one guest room is booked with a private bath a nd the other two guest rooms share the second bath. When occupancy allows, private baths may be actually available with two of the guest rooms. This decision not to alter the bedrooms for convenience sake has inadvertently resulted in one of the most interesting and unique features of the house. |

| The Chapel Bath...was an addition to the house in the late 1800's when the owner of the day, Mr. James Peirce, decided to include a chapel in his renovations. A man of both great wealth and great religious faith, he was simultaneously involved in the financing and building of the town's first Episcopal Church. For his own personal chapel he spared no expense and today it remains almost exactly in its original condition. It is highlighted by a magnificent oriel stained glass window, no doubt a museum piece, which dazzles brilliantly in the early morning sun. Without compromising its beauty or historical significance, Mr. James Peirce's chapel has been transformed into the 'Chapel Bath". Out of necessity and with great respect, we made the conversion in 1996, just over 100 years after its creation. It was consecrated in 1997 by the Reverend John Eddy of Texas, descendant of original owner Zachariah Eddy. Several other Eddy descendants were in attendance, as well. It has become a truly one of a kind bath and it is still used for meditation today ! |
The Other Bath...This perfectly acceptable modern bath has become just ordinary in comparison to the "Chapel Bath". It has become referred to by guests only as the other bath. It has a full tub, shower and double sink. Clean, modern, functional! |
