| | Clarke Farmer Dies in Woods Eddy, Charles M.-Charles M . Eddy, well known third line farmer of Clarke Township is no more. His dead body was found on the ground in the woods on the north end of Joseph Heard farm by his son Freeman Friday night October 25th. He had walked away from the house before dinner and was noticed strolling down through the garden by his daughter Florence who lived with him This was nothing unusual as he was accustomed t o taking such walks either in the woods, to his Neighbors , or t o his son Freeman's who farms a little to the west and north . When he didn't turn up toward dinner, Florence grew anxious and walked over to Freeman's to see if he was there. When he was not found they set out in search of him and it w as around 8 p.m when Freeman found his Dead body on the ground near a stump. Death had apparently come suddenly and peacefully as there were no signs of any struggle . The farm with the woods in which he died has been worked for the past 22 years by Truman Clark. The Late Mr. Eddy was exceptionally sociable and congenial character. In his young manhood he made quite a name for himself as an expert horse trainer and breaker of vicious horses and was a showman of considerable fame. He had lived for nearly 65 years o f his 85 years on the old Eddy farm north east of Newcastle and was active until the last. He was a man of versatile gifts and was a school trustee of Browns section and the Secretary Treasurer for perhaps a third of his life. H e could entertain on the platform as a singer, reciter from his boy Hood days and when he was presiding over the school concerts he was in his glory and kept things going with a swing. Once he gave up farming for a while and moved into Newcastle but his residence there was only for a few months and then the farm and the more open spaces called him back. Like some other rural folk he used to send in some news to the newspapers and at time corresponded for the Toronto Star, The president J.E Atkinson is a native of the same old School section , Browns. The late Mr. Eddy is survived by three sons, Waldimer, Newcastle who was working for Chas. Gilkes, Shaw when he received word of his fathers passing; Eugene who has been away from home for many years; and Freeman farming in the neighborhood; and 2 daughters Mrs. Milton Wright ( Millie ), Darlington and Florence at home. Rev. R.E Morton, Newcastle conducted the service at the house Monday in the presence of a large gathering of relatives and neighbors and also the burial rites at Orono Cemetery. Chas M. Eddy was a scion of one of the oldest families in the region his ancestors having settled in the region in 1825. H e was twice married, both wives being daughters of the late James Gibson and sisters of Mr. W.A. Gibson of the same neighborhood. Charles was born in Orono ,Ontario. He lived at Lot 22 Concession three when h e died. When he was younger he went to live with his Uncle Chas. Eddy on the 3rd concession. He attended school section #5. After the death of his Uncle he returned to Orono for a number of years and then returned and took over his Uncles farm where he pursued agriculture. | May 1916 Orono News Newspaper Eddy- In Orono on Friday May 12 Electa Pinkham relict of the late Hiram K.
